The Primary Cause of Death in Women & What To Do About It

The primary cause of death in women is heart disease. This is the same for men and yes it is a worldwide issue. This is a disease that is too often perceived as a men's issue only when it is actually the top cause of death for women all across the world. The most common type of heart disease among women is Coronary Artery Disease. This disease occurs when the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle become hardened and narrowed. Inflammation (so often diet and lifestyle related) is the driving force behind this, allowing fats and other materials to deposit into arterial walls over time leading to potentially fatal heart attacks.

There are all sorts of contributing factors to the development of heart disease. High blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and smoking are the most dangerous risk factors.

Prevention through lifestyle is the most important focus when combatting heart disease in women. As we discuss here every day, lifestyle has got to be number one. A balanced plant based diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Along with a plant based diet, it is vital to avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption. Regular health screenings by a Physician that includes blood tests, EKG's, echocardiograms if necessary and blood pressure monitoring provide crucial information that can help detect heart disease early on. Managing stress has also been proven to be crucial to helping prevent heart disease. Addressing stress, anxiety, and depression through counseling, therapy, and stress management techniques like yoga, meditation, and mindfulness can help with keeping a clear mind and reducing extra stress on your heart. By focusing on these areas, the occurrence and impact of heart disease among women can be significantly reduced.
