Has your neuropathy experience been about disease management or real healthcare? As a patient, how much counseling have you had on legitimate lifestyle approaches not only to prevention but treatment? What type of drug-free modalities have you been offered for neuropathy and
chronic pain management? Have drug free care options been tried for you prior to referral for surgery or Medical pain management? Are all of these available in one private practice? In our direct primary care practice the answer is yes. This is my vision of what real healthcare should be.
Now this is not to take away from those patients who have severe, genetic and accident illnesses and have benefited from all the improvements that modern medicine has been able to bring. The reality is however even in severe illnesses can be often helped with simple, lifestyle, drug free approaches. Far too often however physicians are not given the time under the traditional model to even address this remotely or adequately with their patients. Let alone adequately treat patients with drug free approaches we've heavily implemented throughout the practice of primary care.
Over the last couple months we've had lots of inquiries from families and patients about our approach. Of course finances are a concern however when most patients take a look at what they're already spending on a wide range of health related expenses most especially co-pays, non covered services, add on fees, deductibles which are out of control, the cost of direct primary care pales in comparison. I was so fortunate to be able to train in lifestyle and family medicine and also spend time in the direct primary care setting as a medical resident. To say this was life changing for me and our patients is an understatement.
