Before beginning any extended care program, it is crucial to understand what may be causing your symptoms most accurately.
Let's Make The Most Accurate Diagnosis First
We have been teaching patients and professionals this for many years- to make the most accurate diagnosis before beginning any extended care program. Here is one example of why.
I recently read an article on pain & neuropathy treatment. This article was written specifically for patients, and you’ve probably come across it too. It had been widely publicized as a "neuropathy treatment solution" in a bottle. As I read through the article I couldn’t help but think of the numerous patients I have interacted with in my clinic that had been previously diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, or another named condition, before coming to my clinic. Most times, this diagnosis had been incomplete because the major health challenge of these patients was the very fact that they had other serious underlying health problems.
Unless you have very thorough Doctors, you can spend months and sometimes years treating the wrong thing! This is happening more and more and seems to be made worse with all the Social Media "cures" and practices being promoted.
Additionally, before beginning any extended program of care, it is crucial to accurately understand what may be causing your symptoms. This is particularly one of the reasons why self-treatment and home care without supervision are potentially dangerous. Some drug/diet supplement interactions can be potentially dangerous and detrimental to your health. A common one is Coumadin and Co Q10 which could have potential interactions with acetyl-l-Carnitine, thyroid, HIV, and many chemotherapy drugs.
However, Choose your Doctor carefully. Stay away from fads, quick fixes, or "magic treatment" pills or supplements. When in doubt, seek out our help before engaging in any questionable treatment.
