Discover the Benefits of Laser Therapy for Neuropathy and Chronic Pain Relief

Updated: Aug 2

Laser treatment for Neuropathy and Chronic Pain

The Ubiquity of Lasers

Much has been written about the use of lasers in medicine. You probably know that lasers are everywhere—from supermarket checkouts and barcode readers to devices in our homes and automobiles. You might also be familiar with lasers used in surgery, now commonplace as surgical tools, and have seen them in science fiction as well. Discover the benefits of laser therapy for neuropathy and chronic pain relief. While fictional lasers often depict destruction, real-life laser therapy uses lower levels of focused light beams to promote healing.

Advancements in Laser Therapy

The concept of laser and light therapy as a healing mechanism dates back to the 1960s with shows like Star Trek. Today, Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and Light Emitting Diodes (LED) have advanced significantly. These devices are now more common, and research on their effectiveness is growing rapidly.

How Laser Therapy Benefits Neuropathy Treatment

Recent studies indicate that properly applied laser therapy can measurably improve nerve function in some cases of peripheral neuropathy. In our clinics, we use laser therapy for two main reasons:

  1. Stimulate the Healing Process

  2. Reduce Pain

Conditions treated include spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, peripheral neuropathy, and chronic pain.

Simple Application, Significant Results

While the technical explanation of how laser therapy works is complex, its application is simple. A highly focused, painless beam of light is directed at target tissue at a specific power level for short intervals. Based on the light's wavelength, we can predict the targeted tissue effects.

Not a Quick Fix, but Effective

Although not a quick fix, studies show significant improvements in as little as 12 treatments for those suffering from peripheral neuropathy and some forms of chronic pain. However, not all neuropathy treatment devices or lasers are the same.
